This is how you can be tested

If you suspect that they are infected with covid-19, you can get tested without a doctor's assessment.

If you have a GP at Herøya or Heistad medical center, contact them for a test.

Others can call: 35 54 78 00

The phone is operated Monday to Friday at 8-15.

Tip: There is the most traffic on the phone between 8-9. It's easier to get through on the phone later in the day.

Those who answer the appointment phone are not healthcare professionals. If you have any questions, you must contact your GP or call the National Institute of Public Health's information telephone on 815 55 015

If you feel very ill, contact your GP or emergency room on telephone 116 117.

Test premises

For those who do not have a GP at Herøya or Heistad Medical Center, the actual sampling takes place in separate premises at St. Hansåsen local medical center. We test every weekday. Jønholt Terrasse 30, 3922 Porsgrunn (follow signs)

This is how the test is done

The test is done by extracting sample material from the throat and nose. A small sampling stick is inserted and scraped against the mucous membranes to get some cells where the virus lives. The stick is then placed in a glass with a medium that allows the virus to survive transport to the laboratory.

The samples are sent for analysis.

Everyone who is tested should stay at home until a negative test result is available AND they have become symptom-free.

Test results

It takes 1-3 working days before the test answer is ready.

Test results are displayed on as soon as the test has been analyzed and answered. You must log in with, for example, a bank ID.

This gives you quick access to your own test results, which is important for you to be able to take the necessary infection control measures on your own as early as possible.
